A partnership between the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) and the Global LPG Partnership (GLPGP) will mobilize $1 billion in funding for clean cooking solutions during a summit in Paris in May. The aim will be to make the funds available to promote a sustainable transition to cleaner fuels for cooking.
With Africa’s population forecast to increase to 2.5 billion by 2050, access to clean cooking solutions will be imperative for the continent to mitigate public health risks and promote human development
“Africa will need cleaner fuels or else we will have a public health disaster on our hands,” stated ARDA Executive Secretary Anibor Kragha, adding.
Meanwhile, a call for investment was made by ARDA Executive Secretary Anibor Kragha during an energy event in Cape Town on April 22, who made the case for Africa to continue investing in hydrocarbons to promote an equitable energy transition on the back of resource monetization and socioeconomic development.
“The sustainable energy transition for Africa must be inclusive and equitable and a roadmap must be deployed that captures priorities, challenges and perspectives of Africa’s low-emitting countries. The roadmap must not prioritize near-term emissions reduction over support for economic development and energy transformation,” Kragha concluded.
