French oil major, Total, has started production on the Kaombo Sul floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, offshore Angola.
Located on Block 32, 260km off the coast of Luanda, the Kaombo Sul comes eight months after the start-up of the Kaombo Norte, which forms part of the Kaombe project that consists of six fields.
The Kaombo Sul will contribute 115,000 bpd, setting its overall production capacity at 230,000 bpd – equivalent to 15 percent of the country’s total production, the company said, further demonstrating Total’s commitment to Angola.
“Leveraging the experience of the Kaombo Norte, Kaombo Sul started up in the best possible conditions. This second FPSO stands out as an excellent example of standardization to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Its start-up will contribute to the Group’s cash flow and production growth in 2019 and beyond,” said President of Exploration and Production at Total, Arnaud Breuillac, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Launched in 2014, the Kaombo project represents 90 percent of the country’s exports.
Total operates Block 32 with a 30% participating interest, along with Sonangol P&P (30%), Sonangol Sinopec International 32 Limited (20%), Esso Exploration & Production Angola (Overseas) Limited (15%) and Galp Energia Overseas Block 32 B.V. (5%).
