On Monday, the Angolan State Ministry for Economic and Social Development, alongside Total and the country’s national oil company, Sonangol launched the Kaombo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) which came on steam earlier this year.
Located deep offshore on block 32, 260 kilometers off the coast of Luanda, the deep-sea oil field which began production in July this year is expected to boost the country’s oil production.
On the launch of the project and the oil major’s relationship with Angola, Total CEO, Patrick Pouyanne said: “Kaombo opens a new chapter in Total’s commitment to Angola. It will produce 230,000 barrels of oil per day on a plateau basis and will enable Total to maintain world production of 600,000 barrels per day by 2023, or 40 percent more or less of the country’s production. So let me be clear, Minister of State (Manuel Nunes Júnior), the future of our company is deeply linked to the future of your country.”
During the project inauguration, Total also announced the continuation of its development program in Angola, following the launch of the Zinia 2 project in May.
Total produces 40 percent of the crude oil extracted from Angola, the second largest supplier of sub-Saharan Africa.
Endorsed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, Africa Oil & Power will organize the first Angola Oil & Gas conference, which will be held on June 4-6, 2019 in Luanda. Registration is now open.
