Angola’s state-owned gas company Sonagas expects LPG demand in the country to increase by 31% between 2024 to 2027.
Between 2022 and 2023, Angola’s cooking gas demand grew from 447,000 tons per year to more than 472,000 tons per year, representing an increase of 5.59%. Approximately 60% of the uptick was seen in urban areas.
According to Sonagas, increased LPG demand will be seen primarily in the country’s industrial sector, with local steel mills and ceramics, pulp and paper manufacturers serving as the largest consumers.
To meet this demand, Sonagas is constructing a 60,300-ton storage facility as part of the Bande terminal project in the Bengo province.
The largest producers of LPG in Angola include energy supermajor Chevron’s Sanha gas processing complex and Malongo refinery as well as the state-run Luanda refinery, which account for 19%, 3% and 5% of the country’s butane output, respectively.
