U.K. mining company Altona Rare Earths (Altona) has completed a geophysical and geochemical data assessment for Zambia’s Kabompo South Project, revealing the presence of copper deposits at the mine.
Conducted by Namibian geophysical services firm Earthmaps, the assessment confirmed geophysical features – including iron-rich Hook Granites – associated with iron ore copper gold mineralization. The project’s geology is similar to that of the nearby 3.5-million-ton Kitumba Mine, which began construction in August 2024, according to Altona.
“The definition of a geological model to guide exploration is a necessary first step for any mining project and this represents a significant and exciting advancement for the Kabompo South project,” said Cedric Simonet, CEO of Altona.
Altona will use the results on its magnetic forward and inversion modeling as well as soil geochemical surveys to further understand the geology and define drilling targets at Kabompo South.
