Algeria has secured a 1GW solar panel supply deal with Astronergy to support the construction of its 2,000MW solar power plant project.
Launched by Sonelgaz, Algeria‘s state-owned utility, the 2,000 MW solar power initiative will comprise 15 plants across 12 provinces. Astronergy has been awarded six projects including the Abadla (80 MW), Batemete (220 MW), Gueltet Sidi Saad (200 MW), Douar El Maa (200 MW), Ouled Djellal (80 MW), and Biskra (220 MW).
The construction work will be executed by China International Water & Electric Corp. and Power Construction Corporation of China.
The Biskra plant is already under construction and will create 600 jobs, generate approximately 400 million kWh of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by 330,000 tons.
