Algeria’s investments in renewable energy are set to yield 4GW Capacity by 2024/2025, according to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Commission.
Currently, the country’s renewable energy facilities generate over 600 MW. In line with its energy transition strategy, Algeria launched two major projects –the 2,000 MW and Solar 1,000 MW initiatives –at the end of 2023. This strategy aims to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, with a goal of reaching 15 GW of production by 2035 through new renewable energy installations.
Mourad Issiakhem, Director of Energy Efficiency at CEREFE, stated, “CEREFE has conducted its 2024 assessment, and we have noted that Algeria’s renewable energy production capacity is now over 600 MW. With the projects underway, totaling 3 GW, by the end of 2024 and early 2025, we will have installations producing around 4 GW.”
