The governments of Algeria, Nigeria and Niger have signed three agreements to accelerate the development of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project.
The agreements include an upgrade to the project’s feasibility study, a compensation agreement and a non-disclosure agreement.
The feasibility study contract was signed by Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ekperikpe Ekpo, Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab and Nigerien Minister of Petroleum Sahabi Oumarou.
Meanwhile, the non-disclosure agreement and compensation agreement were signed by Algeria, Nigeria and Niger’s respective national oil companies. Signatories included Algeria’s Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Vice President Olalekan Ogunleye and Niger’s SONIDEP General Director Ali Seibou.
Linking gas sites in Algeria, Nigeria and Niger, the 4,000km pipeline is set to facilitate natural gas exports to European and other international markets.
