Algeria has launched the Bled El Habda integrated phosphate megaproject in the country’s Tebessa province.
Inaugurated by the Algerian Chinese Fertilizers Company, the $7 billion project includes the development of a phosphate ore mine – with reserves of 2.2 billion tons – and the construction of a phosphate production and processing complex in Qued Kebrik.
The project will also feature the development of 21 phosphate processing units in Souk Ahras, Annaba and Skikda.
The megaproject is expected to create 12,000 jobs during construction and an additional 6,000 direct and 24,000 indirect jobs once operational by 2027.
The mine’s operational lifespan is estimated at 80 years.
