Africa Energy Corp Contracts Island Innovator for Gazania-1 Drilling

Canadian oil and gas company, Africa Energy Corp, has announced that the Joint Venture partnership for Block 2B has contracted semi-submersible drilling rig, Island Innovator, to drill the Gazania-1 well offshore South Africa by October 2022.

The Gazania-1 well is located in Block 2B of the Orange Basin – a 3,062km² oil field that is found between the borders of South Africa and Namibia in close proximity to where supermajors Shell and TotalEnergies have recently made significant discoveries.

“The block has significant contingent and prospective resources in shallow water close to shore and includes the A-J1 discovery from 1988 that flowed light sweet crude oil to surface. Gazania-1 will target two large prospects seven kilometers up-dip from A-J1 in the same basin as the recent Venus and Graff discoveries,” stated Garrett Soden, CEO of Africa Energy Corp.

Africa Energy Corp started testing Gazania-1 well in April 2021. According to the company, the presence of oil at the Gazania-1 well is a result of oil migration from AJ-1 over recent years.
