The Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) has granted a $32 million low-interest loan to Mauritania to supply drinking water to the city of Kiffa.
The agreement was signed on May 22 by Mauritania’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh and Acting Director General of AFESD Walid Shamlan Al Bahar.
The loan will help complete the financing for a water supply project to the city of Kiffa from the Senegal River, which aims to deliver comprehensive water and sanitation services to villages and towns along the main pipeline.
Expected to be completed by 2026, the project is fully financed by multiple Arab financial institutions and is poised to enhance both public health and water quality in the country.
