Pan-African financial institution the African Development Bank (AfDB) and intergovernmental organization the Lake Chad Basin Commission have signed a $10.2 million grant to support ecological protection in the Lake Chad Basin.
The agreement was signed in March in N’Djamena, Chad by Claude N’Kodia, AfDB interim Country Manager for Chad, and Mamman Nuhu, Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
Funding for the project will support water resource management and institutional capacities in the Lake Chad region while also helping restore ecological and economic functions of the basin.
The Technical Support Project for the Restoration of the Ecological and Economic Functions of the Lake Chad Basin initiative is funded by the AfDB’s concessional financing window the African Development Fund and funding mechanism the Transition Support Facility.
Member states of the Lake Chad Basin Commission include Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, Algeria, the Central African Republic, Libya, Sudan and Chad.
