Multilateral development finance institution the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission have inaugurated a Regulatory Information Database Management System (RDBMS) aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within Liberia’s electricity sector.
Developed under the AfDB’s Africa Energy Sector Technical Assistance Program – an initiative that supports countries improve institutional capacity in energy -, the RDBMS seeks to streamline regulatory processes and promote transparency by automating key performance indicators and facilitating real-time monitoring of service delivery.
The RDBMS will help strengthen electricity access by creating a conducive environment for increased private sector investments in the country. According to Liberia’s Vice-President Jeremiah Koung, “This RDBMS is a classic example of our government’s commitment to strengthening our public institutions by deploying infrastructure to meet the demands of 21st-century business processes and interactions.”
The country’s Minister of Mines and Energy Wilmot Paye added that “We cannot build a wholesome functioning economy that meets the needs of our people with a fragmented regulatory environment. As a ministry, we will play our leadership role and work with partners to improve and streamline regulations for greater efficiency in the sector.”
