Pan-African financial institution the African Development Bank (AfDB) has granted a loan of €80.16 million to upgrade road infrastructure in Tunisia.
The funds will be used to upgrade 188.9km of classified roads in seven governorates in the country – Kef, Kasserine, Sousse, Sfax, Kairouan, Siliana and Gafsa.
The project will run from 2025 to 2030 and falls under Phase 3 of Tunisia’s Road Infrastructure Modernization Program. Phase 3 of the program carries a total cost of €80.21 million, with the Tunisian government set to contribute roughly €6.05 million.
The transport sector in Tunisia accounts for approximately 5% of the country’s GDP while supporting roughly 160,000 direct and indirect jobs.
