South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, H.E. Puot Kang Chol, has reiterated the need for capacity building in the country’s energy sector.
Speaking at the launch of the opening bid round for South Sudan’s environmental audit tender on Tuesday, he noted that the promotion of local company participation and equal opportunities for South Sudanese companies were a priority and that an abundant local workforce would drive successful sectoral developments.
“We have come up with local content laws to protect the local people and companies. In the procurement department, opportunities should be available for local companies,” he said.
Meanwhile, he criticized international oil companies who were not giving local content hires precedence.
“I am not chasing foreigners’ way, we are stating that locals must be given priority,” he stated.
