PC Gabon Upstream S.A. (PCGUSA), a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), has awarded the Denmark based drilling-rig operator, Maersk Drilling, a one-well ultra-deepwater exploration contract in Gabon. According to the contract, Maersk Drilling will deploy its 7th generation high-spec drillship, the Maersk Viking, to drill a 2,100-meter ultra-deepwater exploration well in Block F13 offshore Gabon.

The contract represents Maersk’s first drilling campaign in Gabon. Including mobilization and demobilization expenses, the contract is estimated to cost approximately $24 million with operations expected to commence in Q3 2021 for a duration of 60 days.

“We’re delighted to expand our international relationship with Petronas, with whom we have worked on deepwater wells in the Far East, the Americas and now West Africa. We’re looking forward to conducting our first-ever campaign in Gabon,” stated Morten Kelstrup, COO, Maersk Drilling in a press release.
