On Friday, Italian oil major, Eni announced that it had made an oil discovery at its Abu Sidri development lease in the Gulf of Suez, offshore Egypt.

The Sidri 36 appraisal well in the Abu Rudeis Sidri lease encountered 200 meters of hydrocarbon column while assessing the westward extension of this year’s Sidri discovery well, Eni said in a statement.

“The well will be completed and put into production in the next few days with an expected initial flow rate of about 5,000 barrels per day,” Eni said, adding that Petrobel has lined up a fast-track development to bring it to market.

“This new and important result continues the positive track record of the ‘near field’ exploration in Eni’s historical concessions in Egypt,” said the major.

The discovery was made by Petrobel which successfully drilled an appraisal well of the discovery of Sidri South prospect which resulted in an oil discovery earlier this year.

Petrobel is jointly owned by Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.
